Firefox 1.0

Firefox 1.0

Firefox 1.0 has arrived. After a beta period that has seemed almost endless, the web browser of everyone’s dreams is finally here. I’m currently trying to grab myself a copy but it seems that The Mozilla Foundation, GetFirefox.com, and SpreadFirefox.com are getting completely hammered. This has definitely been my favorite piece of software to watch grow. The marketing effort that has been launched by everyone involved with SpreadFirefox.com has just been amazing. I know of quite a few people that before that site launched had absolutely no interest in web standards, let alone any browser other than Internet Explorer, and now as I read emails and speak to friends on the phone, many of them ask me if I’ve heard of this Firefox web browser.

Along with the launch of Firefox today, be on the lookout for Firefox launch parties in your area. I don’t believe that there is one in Edmonton yet, but if one happens to pop up, I’ll definitely be attending.

Google has also jumped on board the Firefox movement amidst rumours that a rebranded Google version of Firefox might be on the horizon. The default start page for Firefox 1.0 is actually a Google search page.

So to all of you that haven’t given this fabulous web browser a shot yet, I’d definitely suggest that everyone make a stop at one of the sites that I mention below and grab up a copy.

Firefox 1.0 Oh happy day! Go download it and browse happy! Also, Ben Goodger, Firefox developer, has made an entry on his blog concerning this milestone release and a little history on the Firefox browser. It's a good read.

Hell ya! Firefox is cool. You're right about the web standards, people actually becoming aware there's a alternative and with that, better usability. I only hope it keeps growing!

I think that the only way for web standards to go is up. For the most part, people are becoming more internet savvy and they'll soon realize that web pages can look a lot better than they do in IE, added to the fact that the user experience is enhanced greatly.
