"Dimebag" Darrell Abbott 1966 - 2004
As I awoke to The Bear this morning, I heard the report that last night at an Ohio nightclub, a crazed fan shot and killed “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott.
Any of you who are remotely into heavy metal music no doubt know who Dimebag Darrell is. But, for those who don’t, Dimebag was the lead guitarist for the now parted Pantera, a pioneer in the hardcore metal scene. Since the breakup of Pantera, Dimebag and his brother Vinnie Paul (also formerly of Pantera) had been playing in a band called Damageplan.
Last night in front of a crowd of 200, a man climbed onstage during Damageplan’s first song of the night, made a comment about the breakup of Pantera and proceeded to pump round after round into Dimebag’s body. Dimebag was among the 5 deceased at as a result of the incident.

I'm not a Pantera fan, but I recognize their/his importance. This is horrible, not because he is Dimebag Darrell, but because of the cruelty! How can you kill someone just because a band doesn't exist anymore? When I heard those things, I wonder where the world is going... May he rest in peace...Comment Permalink

You're right Michele, it's a very shocking insight as to the direction the world is heading. Not to mention how attached people get to public figures. Not that Dimebag was an extremely public figure in all circles, but in certain circles he has huge name recognition.Comment Permalink

I couldnt believ it when i heard it, such a fucking waste of talent and a genuninely good person, i straight away stuck 'vulgar display' on when i herd , just to remind myself of him, and then 'hollow' played and i just sat crying. today is like 8 months on and it still makes me cry , and im meant to be heavy fucking metal! i saw the interview with anselmo and watchin him cry was fuckin surreal, and the memorial that had vinnie in it , crying. Every dime solo i hear i just think, shit man theres never gona b a guy as good as that, and he had so much more music in him! fuck nathan gale!Comment Permalink

Dime was a true metalist, he poured his heart into his guitar playing, not only cuz he loved his fans but cuz he really loved music. He could make a guitar scream like noone ever has. There will never be another dimebag, but he will always be a legend. RIP Dime, we love ya man!!Comment Permalink

December 8, 2004- the world of heavy metal stopped turning; the great Dimebag Darrell was killed.
He was truly one of the greatest guitar players to exist, and inarguably the greatest metal guitarist to have lived.
And it was truly a f**ked up way to end his life. Dimebag was a really good guy, who loved the music, and who worshipped his fans as much as they worshipped him-
He did not deserve what happened to him. May whoever killed him suffer 40 times as much pain for everyone he's caused pain to- that includes Dimebag's family, friends, and millions of fans. R.I.P, Dimebag Darrell.

dimebag was a close friend and it has been the hardest 3 1/2 years, since. my whole world turned upside down and i’m still there. thank you for your support, we give it out to you, too. r.i.p. dimebag darrell abbott.
