Apple Boot Camp Public Beta

If you happen to have an Intel based Mac and a copy of Windows XP Professional SP2, make sure to check out Boot Camp Public Beta from Apple.

Update: I’ve successfully installed Windows XP on my iMac with no major issues and it runs flawlessly.  I installed Battlefield 2 last night to do a bit of testing with games and was surprised just how well it ran.  I’ll be outlining my experience in a little more detail here this weekend along with a few gaming benchmarks.
Wow, this is just what I’ve been waiting for. Being a new owner of an Intel iMac, I have been anxiously watching the dual boot scene until a safe alternative came about.

Just curious, did Battlefield run better on your PC or Mac? I know you’re getting to this latter, but just give us a taste!

It actually ran better on my Mac to tell you the truth. However, my iMac has an X1600 in it and my PC runs a 9600XT, so that could be the difference right there.

Was this online? Or the single player mode?

This was just in single player mode. I haven’t had a chance to give MP a try yet.

Just a little update for everyone, I installed Half Life 2 this weekend, and it runs like a dream at 1280×768 @ 75Mhz. and High detail. Still haven’t gotten a chance to write up the results yet, but it is coming.

Do you think that being run on an Intel Mac would have a direct influence on the performance of the game in online play? I would think that since it is basically a PC when running windows, it would perform exactly like a pc with the same specs. the only thing i can think of that would influence its performance would be the internet speed, but that applies to pc’s as well.

That aside, it runs pretty darn well on the mac, wouldnt you say? From the video i saw on ubergeeks, the resolution looked like it was on high, as well as particle settings. What were the ingame specs that you were running under?

My settings are listed in my comment above, but also of note is the fact that I was also running at 6X antialiasing. I was very pleased with the performance and was consistently getting ~55 to 65 FPS.
